Korean Webtoons Recommendations

Ok so before we get into the list of recommendations, I'm going to talk about my history with webtoons. Or you can just scroll down to the recommendations list if you don't want to read about my boring life.

So basically, I was never a fan of webtoons, and I would avoid it as much as possible even though manga apps keep recommending me stuff. I think for most of the reason, it was because it looked nothing like the traditional manga style of representation, and also because the story-line mostly sucked, and not to mention too much scrolling gets me motion sickness.

So why am I doing a list of recommendation if I didn't like them? Well that's because I've actually grown to like a few webtoons, that I really think people should take a look at. So lets get into the list.

I will start off with the non-BL stuff, because well, not everyone reads BL. So yea.

Korean Webtoon Recommendations

So first in the list is 'Why Did Men Stop Wearing High Heels?

This may sound like a very misleading title, I know. Some of you may think that this is BL or gay. But no think it actually under the genre 'romance', although I think it's more of 'drama' than romance. There is a little bit of lesbian scenes, or what they call as 'GL' in the website, but easily overlook-able.

It is a story of an average male employee who likes heels, and even have a blog about heels, which he posts picture of his gorgeous feet in different heels each week. He then finds himself tangled in drama when he met a genius shoe maker who lost his reputation and status in the company he was working for previously.

Basically what I really liked about this webtoon is that it is very different from any story line I've read thus far, and it takes a very different approach on things. Much like most of the Korean webtoons, the characters are very honest, like Japanese manga where the characters are usually either on the good side or the bad side. It was really interesting to read about his life, and how it develops, and not to mention the urge to buy a pair of heels after reading this (RIP wallet).

I do highly recommend this webtoon, because it is one of my all time personal favorites. And I'll repeat again that this is NOT BL.

________________________________________

...and that's pretty much all I have for non-BL stuff (oh god).
But the next one I'm going to recommend does have a portion of BL, but isn't classified under 'BL', but 'Drama' on the official site.

It's called 'An Uncomfortable Truth'

This webtoon is one that I found very recent, and I honestly clicked on it during on of those rare days where I didn't feel like reading BL, only to find out that it is part BL. (can't run away from my nature maybe?)

So this webtoon is about an adopted brother who has a lot of affection for his older brother, so much that he doesn't 'allow' people to take his brother away from him or upset his brother. He gets very obsessed and possessive with his brother, so much that he would do things to those he view as 'enemies' to 'protect' his brother.

This is more of a full on psychology, high school webtoon. Although it may seem like this type of stories were written before, what makes this story actually more interesting than most, it actually the development of the side characters. It doesn't only focus on the main story-line and the psychological disturbance which the younger brother is going through, but also other school life problems that other side characters are facing, which are somehow connected to the main story-line.

________________________________________

A similar webtoon is this, 'Kiling Stalking'

I'm sure many of you have heard of this, or seen it in manga websites / applications, because it is always ranked quite high on sites. It is a full psychological, and dark webtoon, that is also full on BL.

This story shows a normal average male, that went to kidnap another man who was awkward and weak. The story shows how they 'stayed' together. And that is pretty much it for the summary.

The story involved many thought developments on the two characters mainly. There are hardly any other characters involved in this. It makes you curious because we never know what he is going to escape, or if he is going to escape. But it gets a little stale over time, so it doesn't go quite as high on my list.

________________________________________

Ok this next one is called 'At the End of the Road' or 'What Lies at the End'.

This was the webtoon that got me to change my negativity towards webtoon. It is definitely a full on Shounen Ai, borderline BL story-line. But what drew me into clicking on this was the art. The art is so pretty, and I couldn't help but click on it even though I knew it was a webtoon. Now, the story is really interesting too, which made me continue reading.

The story-line starts off with two friends who were separated for some reason, but when one of them died, he woke up and found himself in another man's body (typical drama, I know). When he was in the other man's body he had a reunion with his friend, and also faced with troubles of the original owner of the body. It shows how he had overcome the difficulties (which were of no difficulties to him), with his 'new' personality. Things for complicated with him and his friend when more characters get involved in his friend's past, and the original owner's history at school.

This story is really interesting because there are many things in the story that gets you curious, and makes you want to read more. It draws you in with many mysteries, and makes you want to know more about the things that happen to the characters.

One That is somewhat in between 'An Uncomfortable Truth' and 'At the End of the Road' is this webtoon called 'Moritat'.

It involves mystery into the plot, which makes it very interesting. Fortunately for most readers now who wants or will start reading this, is that it is completed, so you can read it to your heart's content.

The story starts out with the main character, having his memory wiped out, the first person he sees when he wakes up claims to be his lover / boyfriend. So he takes the main character back to his home, and try to restart his live. But after a while, there seems to be some weird inconsistencies within his life, and it becomes more apparent as times goes by.

Basically it is a mystery story. It is a very interesting read.

Honorable Mentions

Yes, I know it says on the picture that is the '2nd winner', but I didn't quite like this one to consider it to be my favourite. It is title 'Royal Servant'.

It has a pretty weak story-line, and It didn't quite grab my attention very much. The development also seemed kind of messy so it was quite hard to understand what was really happening in full details. Yes, this is also a BL, so people who loves BL would probably love this.

Most people who read or have seen this would comment that the main character looks like Kuroko from 'Kuroko no Basuke'. Even his character seem really similar.

Another one I want to mention is the webtoon 'Warehouse' it is similar to 'Kiling Stalking', but more rated, basically.

Working!! vs WWW.WORKING!!

Working!! first starting airing in 2010, and consist of 2 other sequels. The 2nd season aired soon after, in year 2011, while the 3rd season aired in 2015.

Image result for working!! animeImage result for working!! animeImage result for working!! anime

Working!! Has a fixed set of characters which they focused on. Side characters are then slowly added on throughout the next 2 seasons as they go deeper into the story line. The anime is also popular for their love lines (mostly that one love line which everyone likes). The anime has a very structured development and the story line flows very well (even though it's a comedy.)

Image result for WWW.WORKING

In 2016, they decided to air another anime called 'WWW.WORKING!!', which is an alternative setting to the main series - still unsure if it's the future or the past (or if it's even related to the parent series at all). It's taken from the web series of Working. The new series consist of a whole new set of characters which seemingly resembles the parent series.
The characters all have a new unique point themselves, and doesn't clash with anyone in the parent series, which makes it seems like a whole new series. But the strong similarities in the relationships between the characters makes it connected.

Firstly, in Working!!, Takahashi's family was one of the main points in season 2 and 3, which they actually expanded a lot throughout the whole series, and his family was also the cause of his obsessions with small and short things (or people). Which was one of the reasons why he started working in Wagnaria - because he couldn't refuse his cute senpai who begged him to work at Wagnaria.
In the WWW series, it started out with Higashida's - whose voice actor , Nakamura Yuichi, also voiced one of the side characters in the original series - reason for finding a part-time job. It was due to his dad's business failure. Higashida's family was also shown throughout the whole series, and played a huge part in the anime.

While in the first Working!! series, they focused more on how the characters get together (which may require more patience from the viewers), the WWW characters get together pretty early in the anime (not because of love), and they show more of their progressed in their relationships.
In the original series, it can be seen that all the characters interact with each other, while in the WWW series, the characters are paired up and they usually only interact within their pairs.

Overall, the original series focuses more on the character developments (where the 'slice of life' genre is stronger here), while the WWW series gives a more flexible view to the story, while more jokes (where the 'comedy' side in stronger here). They are both wonderful series, and I recommend viewers to watch both.

Ikemen Anime Special: Inu x Boku SS

Inu x Boku SS is probably one of the most visually pleasing animes out there (that is not an idol / otome type of anime). Filled with random fan service for both female and male watchers out there. But today, I'll only be focusing on Ikemen characters.

I think one of the huge selling point for this anime is they're chibi art. They're cute chibi art really takes you in.
________________________________________

1. Miketsukami Soushi

First off we have the main character - Miketsukami Soushi, Voiced by Nakamura Yuuichi. He works as a butler and security guard at the same time. Who doesn't like a hot butler who serves you and even protect you?

He has a platinum blonde hair, and a very pale and translucent skin colour. He is always seen wearing all black, which contrasts very much against his skin colour.

His natural soft colours really makes him look very kind and gentle, but his dark coloured clothes tells another story, which is very much like his character.

Even his first appearance in the anime was cool and elegant, surrounded by sakura petals, against the soft morning light... as how every other anime goes like.

His eyes are double coloured; right side blue, and the other yellow / gold.

He is always seen tearing infront of Ririchiyo, even though to others, he doesn't have much expressions and is usually only seen smiling.

Because males who only show emotion to his true love one always seems cooler (just joking (✧ω✧))

He is always seen with white and black sparkles, which is something different, since it's not everyday you see black sparkles in anime. Those black sparkles are really eye catching, and undoubtedly a huge contrast to his appearance.

When he transforms into his demon side, his eyes glows, rimmed with a red glow. Quite the beauty isn't it? (╯✧▽✧)╯

His demon form is a fox - as like how all ikemens are in animes. Foxes are usually one of the most elegant-like and pretty demons out there, despite being well-known for their cunning-ness. In this demon form, his hair turns totally white (which, in my opinion, doesn't do any justice to his skin colour).

He is rarely seen in his casual clothes, but as you can see, he wears glasses and his wardrobe is probably all dark colours too.

Miketsukami is always compared to a dog, even though he is a fox (well close enough I guess?), because of his 'loyalty' towards Ririchiyo. And there are many scenes in the anime where that reference is being brought in.

He does many things for Ririchiyo, even though she doesn't really want that type of treatment; like taking food for her, de-boning her fish, massaging her shoulders, etc.

He also drives her everywhere - to school, to shopping, etc. I don't think anyone can look as cool as Miketsukami when driving. (I mean look at the side view, I'd die if I was sitting beside him (≧◡≦))

Teenage Miketsukami looks even more pure and innocent (✧ω✧) (even though he is totally not).

Since he is a fox, he is able to transform. He showed us that he was able to transform into a cute fluffy child...

... and also a hot woman.

Miketsukami's Chibi Collection

For those of you with megane (glasses) fetish (≧◡≦)

No one can mess with Ririchiyo, if not they will be facing an angry Miketsukami. Though an angry Miketsukmai sounds pretty sweet. (✧∀✧)

Other random screenshots of Miketsukami.

All in all, Miketsukami has many different sides to him, and he is willing to do anything for Ririchiyo. He is a character who doesn't have a pride (because of his past. However, later on, it was seen that he actually has a more playful side, and likes to casually tease Ririchiyo.

2. Sorinodzuka Renshou

Although known to be more lazy than an Ikemen, I feel that Sorinodzuka Renshou is has the looks (you know, like the term 'cool beauty'). Voiced by Hosoya Yoshimasa.

He has a ganster look, and is usually mistaken to be much older than what he truly is. He is dark skinned, and has long reddish-brown hair. His eyes is are green. For the most part, I think the only reason why he looks like a ganster is because of his tattoo (or is it a birth mark?) and his long dark hair.

p.s. I really like his long wavy hair o( ❛ᴗ❛ )o

Renshou's eye doesn't glow or anything when he turns into his demon form. Unlike the rest, he transforms in and out of his demand and human form back and forth very frequently.

He says that he prefers his demon form because he doesn't have to keep up with appearances.

Renshou usually puts on a laid back and emotionless face. In reality he is really very laid back and carefree, which is also one of the reasons why he is one of Ririchiyo's few (of not, only) friend since childhood.

He describes himself as "thick skinned", and tells Ririchiyo that it's ok to act normal in front of him because he takes insults very well. But in actual fact, he is actually picks up on people's emotion pretty well, and can usually tell how the other part is feeling. He is one of the few people who is able to understand Ririchiyo despite her contradicting words. Because of this, he gets a long with people pretty fast.

One of his unusual smiles. (omg I swear this melted me (*≧ω≦*), don't smiles look a lot more attractive when you rarely see them?!)

Renshou's serious face.

Renshou's Chibi Collection

He usually seems really laid back and emotionless, but he is unexpectedly the type of person who would play with you. In actual fact, he goes along with Zange's random plays whenever Zange is bored.

Overall, Renshou is a pretty happy-go-lucky guy, who unexpectedly has a very fun personality to him. He cares for the people around him, and gets along well with man different types of people.

________________________________________

3. Watanuki Banri

Watanuki is one of the Kawaii-kei (cute type) of characters, voiced by Eguchi Takuya.

Watanuki has a typical foreigner look; with blonde hair and blue eyes.

Watanuki always claims to be a delinquent, although he doesn't quite make the cut... σ( ̄、 ̄〃) Unexpectly, he is childhood friends with Zange, Miketsukami and Kagerou, and is often bullied and teased by the 2 of them (Zange and Kagerou).

Even though he claims and is striving hard to be a delinquent, he participates in classes, helps people pick things up, and is very honest. All in all... He is just not cut out to be a delinquent, and is just naturally a very nice person. Because of this, he naturally makes a lot of friends and gets close to people pretty quickly despite saying (or at least trying to say) bad things.

Because of his naive nature, he is easily bullied and teased.

Watanuki is a tanuki (racoon) in his demon form, and similarly to Renshou, he transforms in and out of his demon form very frequently. He said that it was because he can't control his transformation very well.

He likes Karuta a lot, and is training to be a 'delinquent' to protect her. He is also one of the rare people who understand Karuta's actions.

One of Watanuki's cute and 'normal' scenes. ♡(。-ω-)

Overall, Watanuki has a little bit of tsundere side to him, and although the way he talk doesn't sound very elegant, he is a nice person.

________________________________________

4. Zange Natsume

Lastly we have Natsume Zznge, voiced by Miyano Mamoru. More than Ikemen, I feel like he is a mysterious character and also has the role of the 'goth' character.

He has a dark pinkish red hair and red? eyes (although it's close most of the time). His straight long hair is tied into a low ponytail with a black ribbon... A very classic butler-like hair style (✧ω✧).

He doesn't reveal his demon form... (does he even have one?)

He claims to be close to Miketsugami and calls him "shou-tan", and always embraces him, but Miketsugami always responds in a cold manner (probably a joke though).

Overall, Zange plays the 'shady' and 'mysterious' character in this anime, and his scenes can get really dark (or seem to be). He hides a lot of his emotions and likes to uses bunny drawings for his explanations. Mostly, I feel that he always uses indirect methods to help his friends get along well with each other.

That was all for Inu x Boku SS's Ikemen special!!

Which character did you like the best out of the 4?

FYI... mine is Renshou σ(≧ε≦σ) ♡
